Renovations
Five historic residence buildings at Clemson University were constructed between 1933 and 1935. Coupled with two new buildings and an extensive site package, this LEED-certified project prepared the Greek quad for 21st-century life. Walkability around campus improved and new landscaping created welcoming environments for people to engage outside. During this historic preservation, the mechanical system upgrades not only improved the quality of life inside the residences but will also achieve long-term energy savings. The five original buildings were restored to their former glory, while the new buildings supported their architecture. The design reinforced the residential quadrangle by inserting two new buildings and strengthened the quad’s linkage to major campus paths. Key exterior components included tailgate terraces, two pavilions, and recreational courts for basketball.
